World Environment and World Ocean Days 2024

World Environment Day and World Oceans Day are both causes very close to the heart of Lily Beach Resort & Spa Maldives, a resort where we take pride in our beautiful natural surroundings and make a conscious effort to preserve them for future generations.

World Environment Day, held on 5th June each year seeks to raise awareness of the plights of our planet and campaign to restore nature. The team at Lily Beach were proud to join the global community in marking this special day. We conducted a tour of our water plant – a system that saves hundreds of thousands of plastic water bottles from being used and therefore prevents plastic from entering the environment. In the afternoon, guests were invited to join us for tree planting at Vibes and there was a special turn down service and gift of a water tumbler in the evening.

World Ocean Day is celebrated on 8th June and the 2024 theme was all about taking action for the ocean and climate. The ocean covers 70% of the Earth’s surface and it regulates the climate, produces more than 50% of the oxygen we breathe and stores 50 times more carbon dioxide than the atmosphere. By looking after the ocean, we look after the planet as a whole. Since the next generation are the ones who will need to continue to current work to combat climate change, we held a special program for kids, starting with an informative presentation. We painted tumblers with an ocean theme, had fun atop the ocean on the banana boat ride, played water polo and did some beach cleaning.

The ocean environment plays a huge role here in the Maldives, it is part of every day life and is abundant with life – come diving and snorkelling with us and find out why we love it so much!
