Top 3 reasons why diving in the Maldives is amazing

In this year’s World Travel Awards, Lily Beach received the flattering ‘Maldives’ Leading All-Inclusive Resort‘ accolade, which we are extremely proud of. Yet what’s more, the beautiful Maldives is one of the world-renowned diving destination, and we are certain that the stunning South Ari Atoll where we are located plays a big role in making the Maldives such a top diving destination. If you plan on treating yourself to some amazing underwater delights on your next holiday, the reefs around Lily Beach will certainly tick all the ‘perfect’ boxes. There are as many reasons as to why diving in the Maldives is superb as there are fish in our ocean, but these are 3 that we believe nicely sum up the underwater beauty that awaits you at snorkel or dive sites just a stone’s throw away from the resort:

1. Sightings of manta rays and whale sharks

The Maldives is home to the world’s largest studied population of reef manta rays. It is estimated that around 5,000 individuals reside in the archipelago. These gentle giants are incredibly smart, inquisitive and a true joy to be around with! If lucky, snorkellers and divers can also come face to face with the ocean’s large fish – the whale shark. These, sometimes bus-sized creatures, provide an otherworldly experience that probably few other marine encounters can exceed.

2. House reef diving

We want you to take a leisurely pace during your holiday, and it’s fantastic that house reef diving provides just that. The house reef at Lily Beach is so easily accessible from the island that one would think we put it there! The resort’s house reef, deemed one of the pretties and healthiest in the area, provides shelter to hundreds of fish species, sea turtles and coral growth as seen on TV.

3. Variety of dive sites and activities

Whether you are not quite sure yet if diving is for you at all, a beginner with a few dives under your belt, or an old hand at this wonderful sport, there is a myriad of dives sites to choose from. From the house reef, giris (shallow underwater islands), thilas (deeper underwater islands) to walls and channels, the dive center team will take you to places suitable for your level of experience. What’s more, you can ride underwater scooters, learn to take better pictures, or do one of the numerous courses to make the most of your stay.
