Marine Adventures Await in the Maldives’ Beautiful South Ari Atoll
The Maldives is a world-renowned diving and snorkelling destination, known for incredible marine life that appears on many bucket lists, whale sharks and manta rays to name just two! South Ari Atoll is the jewel in the crown of the Maldives’ underwater world and Lily Beach Resort, the Maldives’ Leading All-Inclusive Resort, is a great base for exploring all it has to offer. The abundance of fish life and corals is simply stunning and whether you’re a big fish seeker or like to search for tiny critters, you won’t be disappointed. Whale sharks, mantas, or turtles, frog fish or nudibranches, and pretty much every thing in between, you’ll find it in South Ari.
The experienced team of international instructors at Prodivers have a love of diving that is infectious and they will be your expert guides on the many beautiful reefs, they will be your patient teachers if you’ll be embarking upon a course and they’ll be happy to share diving tales with anyone who wants to listen! Divers will feel at home at Lily Beach. Likewise, snorkellers will be in very good hands with the resort excursion team and can look forward to adventures that will never be forgotten.
Here are just a few teasers as to what awaits when you take the plunge and explore the reefs of South Ari Atoll:
Sightings of manta rays and whale sharks
The Maldives is home to the world’s largest studied population of reef manta rays. It is estimated that around 5,000 individuals reside in the archipelago. These gentle giants are incredibly smart, inquisitive and a true joy to be around with! If lucky, snorkellers and divers can also come face to face with the ocean’s large fish – the whale shark. These, sometimes bus-sized creatures, provide an otherworldly experience that probably few other marine encounters can exceed.
House reef diving and snorkelling
One of the most sought after features of a Maldives’ resort is a fabulous house reef. The main advantage of having an easily accessible house reef just off the resort is that you can go snorkelling and diving at your favourite time of the day straight from the island, take your time and admire the sections of the reef that you like best. Lily Beach is lucky to have a vast house reef that is home to a wide variety and a large number of marine life. The adventurous amongst you can join Prodivers to see the nocturnal creatures during the hours of darkness with a night diving or night snorkelling experience too.
Variety of reefs and things to see
Whether you content with snorkelling, someone who is thinking of giving diving a try, or a keen diver, there is a myriad of dives sites to choose from. From the house reef, giris (shallow underwater islands), and thilas (deeper underwater islands), to walls and channels, the opportunities for adventure, wow moments and memory making are endless.
