Water Bottling Facility at Lily Beach

It is with great pleasure that we share the exciting news that Lily Beach Resort & Spa, Maldives, has set up a water bottling plant and thereby bid farewell to large amounts of plastic.

The water bottling facility was introduced at the resort in December 2016 and so far our team have already produced 17500 liters of water that is distributed at our restaurants and bars. The daily production totals 500 bottles of still water and 180 bottles of sparkling water, meaning that the consumption of plastic-bottled water has been reduced by 35%, dropping from 1800 bottles of 1.5L to 600 bottles of 1.5L per month.

The facility, which is subject to strict hygiene standards to ensure the highest quality of water, uses reverse osmosis technology: high pressure pushes sea water through a semi-permeable membrane that holds back any unwanted substances. The water is then mineralised, chilled and ready to be enjoyed by our guests.

Ninety-nine per cent of the Maldives is comprised of water, so it is crucial that we all strive to minimise the human impact on this fragile environment. The introduction of the water bottling plant is an important element in the resort’s eco-friendly endeavours and a commitment to the protection of environment in the day-to-day operations, and we look forward to extending the capacity to be able to say ‘no’ to even more plastic that pollutes the planet.
