Sustainable practices at Lily Beach

Sustainable practices at Lily Beach

At Lily Beach Resort & Spa, Maldives we strive to combine luxury and sustainability.
To help preserve the beautiful environment surrounding us and minimize our impact it, we have put in place a number of sustainable practices at our resort.

1. Reducing the amount of single use plastic

We have already significantly reduced the amount of single use of plastic waste that is discarded each and every day. Our water-bottling plant, set up in 2016, provides glass bottled water to our guests in all restaurants and villas, and paper straws instead of plastic straws are utilized in all bars and restaurants.

2. Sustainable fishing

In the Maldives, fishing is the second largest industry in the country after tourism. Most of the fish offered at the restaurants is caught from local fishermen that regularly come to the resort to sell their catch. Ensuring a healthy fish stock through practicing traditional ‘pole and line’ techniques, together with size guidelines and additional government fishery requirement helps to ensure long term sustainable fish population.

3. Energy optimization

We utilise energy efficient appliances throughout the resort and are able to tap into excess heat that gets produced from the generators to heat the water required for guest rooms and the kitchen.

4. Keeping the Ocean clean

The Prodivers dive center team regularly organizes clean-ups of the Lily Beach house reef. To help preserve our blue planet, we make sure our reefs are kept clean not only at events like this one, but every day through the teaching of PADI Project Aware Specialty Course, which are available to our diving guests.

As a final reminder as to how our guests can also play their part in preserving the fragile environment of the Maldives, an educational video is played in all guest rooms.
